As you'll may know, I have two daughters Ranya who will be 13 years old in a few months and Riya who will turn 11 this year. We were all from Singapore where the heavy school workload left little time for my girls to pursue anything creative. Moving here to Pennsylvania was a blessing as my girls had ample time to get creative because of the minimal homework.
Ranya had always been captured by the wonders and the magic of make up. From skin care, hair care to actual make up. She started watching Youtube Videos and soon started making her own videos at home. As she has just started wearing braces, she was rather hesitant to upload these videos on Youtube. Plus, she was apprehensive about the kind of responses or she wondered what if she gets negative comments. Well I have been on the net's peripheral vision for a while because of my blog. You will be astonished with the type of comments I get. It varies from encouraging remarks to date invites to sometimes even slamming my posts!! But I have always kept my cool and ignored negative ones while gently averting the date invites and last but not least showing gratitude to the encouraging ones.
Anyway, getting back to my daughter Ranya, she finally relented and posted a video on Friday !! Yay!! I feel very proud of her foray into the mega popular YouTube Make Up How to Videos. It's a small start for others but a big step for Ranya! Look out for her videos as she has promised to upload one every week.

Today is Mothers Day and my girls Ranya (13 ) and Riya (11) had started planning for this day a month ago!
One Month Ago
Ranya started browsing online for any make up product I would like... She found something ( it was a NYX Matte Lipstick for $6) and asked if she could do chores to earn that money. She cleaned the kitchen counter and cleared the dishwasher and refilled with the dirty ones. She earned $10 within a week ! I was sad when she stopped helping me because I enjoyed her company and of course was grateful for someone helping with my chores.
Riya got me a card at CVS drugstore and refused to show it to me till today. It is a very unique card as it had a badge that read 'Mom Off Duty' on the cover. I wore the badge proudly when we went to see the movie ' Hot Pursuit' at AMC 309 Theatres in North Wales today.
In the morning, my girls created an amazing mug with nail polish (See picture). It was beautiful due to the great choice of pastel colors and it looked like water color painting on the mug.
In the evening, we went to Ulta - a store selling hundreds of varieties of drug store and high end make up, perfumes and toiletries. We get literally lost in there and we always take a long time to leave Ulta much to Riya's chagrin! We got a Cover girl lipstick because the NYX one was out of stock and ended up with other make up products. Expenditure $40!!
Today - Mothers Day May 10th
I woke up today bright and early around 6 and started making breakfast for Anand (my husband) and girls. I know I know - it's Mothers Day - why aren't am I being pampered instead? I guess I thought we would be eating out for lunch and I know my girls will be making something nice for breakfast for me, I decided to pamper them too in a way of thanking them.
I made Veg Rice Porridge for the girls as they are having a hard time chewing and swallowing their food because of their braces. My poor girls - I would take their pain and discomfort anytime. And for Anand, I made Vermicelli Uppuma which is a nice Indian Breakfast ( I will be posting these under Veg Recipes soon).
When Ranya got up, she swooped into the kitchen and made choc brownie while Riya presented me all the gifts she had made for me. A Coupon Book for my use and a home made card with characters based on the letters of our names. Cute.
I started tearing and I thanked my girls for all the trouble they took. They both hugged me and said 'this is for all the trouble you take everyday for us, Mama'. See how blessed I and Anand are to have such delightful loving daughters? We make sacrifices everyday to bring up happy, healthy and loving children and when they thank us in their own ways - it feels heartwarming and so so rewarding. Its great to be a Mom! Thank you Ranya and Riya...
Happy Mothers Day to all the awesome mothers out there !!
My home is
usually in a mess and has dust settled on almost everything. But I believe laughter and love will win the day. In 20 years, my girls won't remember how messy the house was but will remember the time we spent together and the love they felt...
