I was feeling quite anxious and rather worried last week. For my non Singaporean followers, you see, Singapore had its elections last weekend. People's Action Party or PAP is our ruling political party and it has governed Singapore successfully for the last 50 years. Many people gripe about the government complaining about many issues. High property and car prices, frequent train breakdowns, our super stressful education system etc.
In the 2011 elections, PAP didn't do too well which brought about anxiety among PAP supporters like me. What if the alternative voice the opposition is pitching for becomes the ONLY voice in the government? What if the opposition doesn't deliver its promises? How credible are they? Could they maintain our zero corruption in our current government? What will happen to our first world country? Will it slid to 3rd world again as before? So many questions...
So with much trepidation I watched the election results last Friday (Sep11) night... As the night wore on and news started pouring in after the votes were counted, I began to smile. PAP is pulling in the reins again. It did very well !! Or should I say fantastically well? It garnered 69.9% of the total vote share and 83 out of 89 seats in parliament. Great performance.
I have lived in Europe and most recently in America. I recognize a good government when I see one. In Singapore, we don't have gunman in our schools and neighborhood, we don't pay 3 times in taxes and we certainly don't pay a huge US$500 for a simple blood test instead of S$75!! No government is perfect and if an opposition party is promising you that - well, you are just being taken for a ride!
'We shouldn't want change for the sake of change. We shouldn't try to change a clean effective government ' words of fellow Facebooker Alvin Chua.
I see a lot of empty vessels who seem to be making a lot of noise about 'New Ctizens' who have caused the change. And sore losers too... Plenty of them. Pundits lost big time as well. PAP haters would continue in the next few days to complain in offices, food centers, schools etc.
I do hope that by the next election they understand that it is our first class ministers, sound policies, the current goverment's consultative approach and unreliable opposition that brought about this swing. So if you can't beat em' join em'!!
Feel very proud of being a PAP supporter. Feel very proud for having a credible team with Mr Lee helming our country. Feel very proud of our resounding victory in the elections...
My heart is certainly at rest till the next elections in 2019.
My home is
usually in a mess and has dust settled on almost everything. But I believe laughter and love will win the day. In 20 years, my girls won't remember how messy the house was but will remember the time we spent together and the love they felt...
