Since I have started blogging, I have received so many words of encouragement and lots of support from so many of you. I am sure there are many others who wish me well in their hearts but just couldn't get around to doing it. No worries, I understand completely. It's a crazy world out there.
I would like to say a humble thank you to each and every one of you, though the gratitude I feel in my heart has no depths.
Be kind always.
The last day of 2014 is upon us, which means most of us are putting the final touches on our new year resolutions for 2015.
Like most people, we’ll make grandiose plans to improve ourselves physically, mentally and even spiritually. We’ll vow to eat more broccoli and chia seeds, run five miles uphill everyday, commit to 30 mins of meditation every morning or save up enough money for that healing spa retreat we have been yearning for years.
Seriously, don't we know life is hard enough as it is? Although in 2014, we made notable gains in astronomy (the Australian National University discovered the oldest known star at 13.6 billion years old) and a significant breakthrough was achieved in the US Cuban relations, we totally dived nose down ( no pun intended) when it came to aviation safety and gun control.
One might ask do we really need to further stress ourselves out with impossible resolution lists ? And why only do we hear about resolutions when a New year is looming over us?? I believe resolutions must be there everyday regardless of New Year or not. We must constantly try to improve ourselves healthwise, socially and spiritually.
Let us all do a silent prayer for all those who died in the many airplane disasters, ferry mishaps or by Ebola virus and so many more who have died whom we know nothing about.
Robin Williams - may you rest in peace finally.
Happy New Year everyone. Be kind always.
Lush Fresh Handmade Cosmetics is a company which started in 1995 in Ontario, Canada. I discovered this shop while shopping in King of Prussia Mall near Philadelphia. It is now my latest obsession.
Why am I promoting this store? Simply becoz Lush makes Cosmetics and other toiletries using fresh organic fruits and vegetables, the finest essential oils and safe synthetics. Very little or no preservatives are used and they tell you when it is made.
Furthermore, they only buy ingredients from companies which do not conduct animal testing. Something close to my heart.
Did I mention the quirky names of their products? There is a soap called The Godmother and shower gel called Its Raining Men!! Rich coconut shampoo is named Curly Wurly and soft brown eyeliner, Quietly Motivated. Ranya is fascinated by its Bath Bombs - literally round bombs made of essential oils which are to dropped in your baths to moisturizer your skin and perfume your body.
Lush is available in many countries. Find your store at www.lush.com
I feel I should do my part in promoting companies which are against cruel animal testing. Come on and show your support too. Those innocent animals will thank you for saving their lives.
Ranya, my older daughter, made quite an interesting reflection today. While seated in our airplane ready for take off to Philadelphia, she said she was feeling nervous. When questioned, she replied she feels like this before every takeoff.
Subsequently, she looked at me and said ' Don't we feel like this before starting anything new, before a change? We are nervous and unsure of what is to come. But once we are cruising in the air, we are asking ourselves " Why in the world were we scared in the first place?" comparing to our feelings when we have gotten used to something. Then, when we land, we are looking forward to doing this all over again. Just like when we are done with doing something exciting !! '
I smiled at her and complimented her on her reflection. A matured reflection from a 12 year old. Well said, darling.
We left Orlando with sadness. What is it about holidays spent with family that brings about sadness when we leave? The place or the memories of the stuff you did together? Or both and so much more?
We said goodbye to Merlot, the hotel ambassador. Merlot Is a green wing Macaw and was hatched on Jan 30,1998. Gorgeous friendly bird.
Alas, good things do come to an end, don't they?
There were so many things to do at Universal Studios ( US). We started off at 930. Anand was not keen. It was just the three of us. Reached US at 10. The pitch darkness and the jerkiness of the Mummy Ride put us off! I thought to my self 'i'm getting too old for this kind of stuff!'
Next, we went to Diagon Alley of Harry Potter. Girls got their wands. We had butter beer and we bought souvenirs for ardent HP friends back home. The whole set was so beautiful.
We returned home at 5. Tired with aching legs from all the walking....
It was a day of exploring the hotel and trying out the various activities. After hitting the well equipped health club, we had a hearty breakfast of fresh pancakes, roasted potatoes and scrambled egg whites with spinach and mushroom ( I have to try to make this dish). Anand and the girls went canoeing in the morning and then swimming in the afternoon. This resort reminds us so much of the resort hotels in Asia. We felt so nostalgic of Singapore.
A strong resemblance of Singapore greeted us when we stepped out of Orlando International Airport. There was greenery everywhere and the roads were all clean and neatly maintained. We didn't need sweaters and jackets at all.... The temperature was at 81 deg F ( 27 deg C)! It was so nice to be in warm climate again. We actually perspired!
View outside from our hotel....
We are off to Orlando, Florida from tomorrow 22 Dec for a week. Girls are having their Christmas break and so we thought we should travel to some nearby place that is warmer than our -3 deg C!! There is the chance to see the Wizarding World of Harry Potter too. And of course it is a respite from my usual housework!! I'll update from there- stay tuned !!
I have always loved this quote by Confucious, the great Chinese Philosopher.
It teaches us not to stop learning, that it is never too late to begin something new [ like my blog :)], to not give up on your beliefs, to not lose hope.... So many truths in a simple quote. Amazing.
My home is
usually in a mess and has dust settled on almost everything. But I believe laughter and love will win the day. In 20 years, my girls won't remember how messy the house was but will remember the time we spent together and the love they felt...
