We have heard or seen Japanese parents forcing their children to take a dip in the icy waters. These parents believe by doing so, it actually helps to improve their health and makes them stronger.
I have read about a famous celebrity ( Paul Newman) who washes his face every morning with icy cold water to keep his skin taut and wrinkle free. ( I have attached a shot of him below at 83 before he succumbed to lung cancer- you make your own judgement whether his advocacy is true)
Proponents of Cold Showers claim that it
1) improves circulation
2) strengthens your skin
3) bolsters the immune system
4) improves your mood and lastly
5) invigorates your body.
Studies done in Northern Europe, home of cold therapy, found that the cold shower group's flu were significantly shorter and milder. This means that you will still fall ill but you will recover sooner.
Although the cold shower has traditionally been viewed as the ultimate libido killer, it actually stimulates the testicles to produce more sperms because of the increased circulation. (Hmmm - interesting!! )
Cautionary note :
People who are extremely thin may not be able to tolerate cold showers. Likewise, if you have any medical conditions, please consult your doctor before attempting cold therapy.
