If you are like me and can't resist the vibrant colours and the convenience of having non chipped painted nails for at least two weeks , read more. The UV lamps used to dry gel manicures and pedicures were previously reported as safe. But a new study by Georgia Regents University has found out that the devices vary. The worst of them could deliver sufficient UVA rays to up our skin cancer risk in as little as 8 manicures!
If you insist on having a gel manicure after reading this, only get gel manicures or pedicures from salons that use LED light or apply a generous amount of sunscreen with min SPF 30 on your hands and feet before getting your nails painted. Or try Sally Hansen's new Gel Miracles without any light. I tried it and even though it is not as effective as the usual gel polish, it lasts for a week ( with my household duties) and it doesn't give me cancer risk. Wait....If this lasts for only a week, isn't it then the same as the regular nail polish??
Vanity does come with a price!
